Final day at Battle of Champions Chess Tournament

The Battle of Champions chess tournament wraps up today at the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum.

After two intense days of rapid matches, the players will now face off in blitz games to determine the overall winner.

In the men’s category, Azerbaijan’s national champion Rauf Mammadov is competing against former World Cup winner Rustam Kasimdzhanov of Uzbekistan. Among the women, national champion Gunay Mammadzada takes on former world and European champion Antoaneta Stefanova of Bulgaria.

Following the rapid matches, Mammadov holds a 7:3 lead over Kasimdzhanov, while Mammadzada leads Stefanova 6:4.

The overall champions will be decided based on the combined results of both rapid and blitz games.
