Let's learn more about the sarpush (a cone-shaped cover for food), the first exhibit of the Artistic Metalwork collection.

This week we are celebrating the 54th anniversary of our museum!
Let's learn more about the sarpush (a cone-shaped cover for food), the first exhibit of the Artistic Metalwork collection.
Sarpush was mainly used by urban people. It was put on nimcha as a cover to keep food warm. The presented sarpush stands out thanks to its perfect shapes and richness of patterns.
The medallions in the central part are decorated with engraved images of elephants, lions, and vegetative ornaments. There are verses from ghazals by Hafez in the upper and bottom borders of sarpush:
Lift the sarpush,
So the beloved one could taste the food.
May this dish always be full of viands.
May the conversations accompany the feast.
The one, who tasted the food, perhaps will say,
May the owner’s soul rest in peace.
