On 11-12 October 2021, the All-Russia Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art (Moscow) hosted the international scientific and practical conference Challenges of Modern Social and Cultural Environment and Decorative Arts Museums.

On 11-12 October 2021, the All-Russia Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art (Moscow) hosted the international scientific and practical conference Challenges of Modern Social and Cultural Environment and Decorative Arts Museums. The conference dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the All-Russia Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art is held within the framework of the Year of Germany in Russia and organized in cooperation with the Russian Office of Konrad Adenauer Foundation.​

The participants deliver presentations on issues of forming the contemporary decorative art collections in the museums, systematic approach to their renewal and research, educational experience based on decorative art collections.

Dr. Shirin Melikova, Director of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, Chair of ICOM Azerbaijan National Committee joined the international conference and gave a presentation on the topic Museum Without Borders: Education for Everyone. The director showed the rich collection of Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, its projects on the revival of the forgotten traditional carpet techniques, consistent implementation of the educational programs aimed at various audiences, the museum's inclusive project, and other innovative programs designed to involve the people with disabilities, as well as shared museum’s new experiences.

Representatives of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, Chairs of ICOM committees, as well as museum directors, scientists, artists, designers, curators, and gallery owners from Russia and other countries, attended the conference.​

The conference includes lectures facilitated by famous art specialists Claudia Banz, Christoph Lind, Maria Lind, Zhang Chunyan.​
