Dr Shirin Melikova, Director of the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum joined the first Tandem-Sofa / Berlin meets Baku online meeting.
Prof. Peter Heine was the moderator of the meeting. The platform brought together about 70 oriental carpet experts and museum workers from different countries.
Prof. Stefan Veber, Director of the Museum of Islamic Art, Berlin delivered a speech on the importance of hosting such a meeting. Dr Shirin Melikova delivered a presentation on the 17th-century Shamakhi carpet of the Shirvan carpet group preserved in the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum collection. She outlined the interesting facts about this rare palace carpet's history and its patterns' semantics.
Anna Beselin, Curator and Restorer of Carpets at the Museum of Islamic Art, Berlin spoke in detail about the Shamakhi carpet preserved in the Museum of Islamic Art, its restoration and research. She held the comparative analysis of these two carpets stored in both museums.
Following, Dr Melikova conversed with Stefano Ionescu (Rome), carpet expert and collector from Italy, Alberto Boralevi, well-known carpet expert, Christine Müller-Radloff, Specialist-Restorer on Textile, Embroidery and Costumes at the Dresden State Art Collections, Germany, and answered participants’ questions about Azerbaijani carpets.
