Kaitag embroidery, a gift from Dagestan

The panel in the kaitag embroidery technique, donated by Raisa Ismayilova, Dagestan expert and restorer on embroidery and national costumes, and collector, occupies a special place among gifts to the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum. Kaitag embroidery is a precious heritage of Dagestan, the center of half-forgotten signs and symbols, which serve as amulet. It is highly appreciated by foreign collectors.

This modern exhibit (2015) is an example of such embroidery from her collection. It became a memorable souvenir in honor of the exhibition of kaitag and usishin embroideries, held in the museum last September. Raisa Ismayilova, who actively promotes these types of embroidery among contemporary craftsmen, conducted lectures and master classes for applied artists, as well as for all comers at the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum.
