Carpet Space for Peace

Carpet Space for Peace. Author: Nadir Bayramov. Azerbaijan. 1986. Wool. Pile, handmade. Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum collection

The central field of the carpet depicts the portrait of Yuri Gagarin, the first human to travel into space, as well as Vostok and Soyuz T spacecraft, the Kremlin tower with a red star, surrounded by flags of the socialist countries, whose cosmonauts made space flights, and doves, a symbol of peace.
The border of the carpet is decorated with images of the flags of fifteen Soviet Socialist Republics. Traditional ornamental elements adorn the carpet's narrow borders and corners of the wide border.
