Carpet Chelebi

Carpet as a Cultural Bridge. Let's take a closer look at the incomparable Chelebi carpet, an exhibit at the museum's joint exhibition with the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts currently on display in Istanbul.

Khatai branches representing protection surround the Chelebi carpet's central medallion on the vertical axis along the center. Big palmettes adorn the lower and upper parts of the central medallion. The central field is fully decorated with the floral and leaf elements as in the Afshan composition, and is surrounded by a narrow border formed by the repetition of stylized vegetative elements and islimi. The coloring of the carpet is formed by the harmonious combination of white, gold, blue, and red.
