Carpet Demirchiler
Carpet Demirchiler. Gazakh, Azerbaijan. AH 1334/1913. Wool. Pile, handmade. Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum collection
This Demirchiler carpet of Gazakh is on display at the exhibition Carpet Art. Evolution of Meanings in the Kazan Kremlin, the Manege exhibition hall.
The name of the carpet comes from the name of the Demirchiler village, located 9 km west of Gazakh city in Azerbaijan. Some carpet weavers also call this carpet Demirchi Hasan. These samples belong to the category of high-quality carpets of the Gazakh group and are woven in several variants.
The composition of the carpet consists of two large polygonal medallions connected vertically by a rhombus-shaped bashlig element. The ancient garagoyunlu pattern, widely used in many compositions of Gazakh carpets and associated with the traditions of the ancient Oghuz Turkic tribe, adorns the medallion.
The main border consists of a large zigzag-shaped ildirim (lightning) element.
Exhibition runs until 5 September.
