Carpet Gimil. Guba, Azerbaijan. AH 1331/1909. Wool. Pile. Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum collection

This carpet is on display at the exhibition Carpet Art. Evolution of Meanings in the Kazan Kremlin, the Manege exhibition hall.
The name of the carpet is associated with the name of the Gimil village, located 18 km from Guba. It is woven on the basis of Lechek-Turunj composition.

A large round medallion popularly called guyu (a well) decorates the carpet's central field. A wide strip extends up and down from the central medallion and finishes with a gubpa (a dome) element. The wing-like ketebe between the gubpa and the medallion is distinguished by its original shape. A quarter of the central medallion adorns the corners of the central field. The main border of the carpet is called bayramgulu or almagul; the small borders - dolama qiynag, and zanjir.
