Exhibition Play of Varicolored Filaments: the Collection of the Pirot Kilims of the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade
On October 7, 2016, the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum hosted the opening ceremony of the exhibition Play of Varicolored Filaments: the Collection of the Pirot Kilims of the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade. This exhibition was realized on the basis of a five-year memorandum of cooperation in the development of museums and the preservation of cultural heritage between the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum and the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade. According to the memorandum, in 2017 an exhibition of Azerbaijani carpets is planned to display at the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade.
At the event had speeches Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sevda Mammadaliyeva, director of the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum Shirin Melikova, and director of the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade Mirjana Menkovich.
The aim of the exhibition is to reflect the level of development of pirot kilims’ weaving in a time of socio-economic and historical changes in Serbian society. At the exhibition were presented kilims of the period 1792-1932, kept in the collection of the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade.
The exhibition lasted until November 6, 2016.
